October distribution 2022
Koda’s October 2022 distribution takes place on Thursday 13 October. For a full overview of the areas and performance periods included, see the Koda distribution schedule.
TV and Radio
The October distribution covers all TV and Radio areas where distributions are made monthly. While it primarily concerns performances in July, you will find that in several areas performances from August have also already been reported, processed and are ready for distribution. The October distribution also includes the first-ever distribution for the channel TV2 Sport X, covering the years 2020 and 2021, which also includes remuneration for TV retransmission.
The October distribution also includes a number of final distributions of funds that Koda received recently, but which cover music use in previous years. These include final settlements for DR TV and radio channels 2020 and for Faroese and Greenlandic radio 2017–2021.
Online
TV2 Play and Disney+
Koda is now making distributions relating to the first half of 2022 on TV2 Play (on demand), which covers interactive consumption of content that is permanently available on TV2 Play. The October distribution also covers music use on TV2’s flow channels watched via the TV2 Play platform. This distribution is based on previously processed music reporting from TV2’s flow channels for the period 2020–2021.
The VOD area also includes distributions for music use throughout 2021 on the VOD service Disney+.
Discovery VOD
A few years ago, Koda entered into an agreement with Discovery regarding their VOD service Discovery+ (formerly D-Play). Unfortunately, it has not been possible for Discovery to provide reporting on music use, which is why Koda has not been able to make distributions pertaining to this service before.
Koda has now had to acknowledge that it will not be possible to obtain reporting for previous years. Therefore, the amounts received are now distributed on the basis of data consisting of representative reporting from a similar and comparable area. More specifically, the distribution is based on reporting for digital consumption on Discovery’s TV channels (Kanal4, Kanal5, 6eren, Discovery Channel etc.) via interactive TV services offered by TV distributors. The distribution covers the period 2017 to 2020.
Concert and Background
As regards concerts, the October distribution covers all concerts where the music reporting has been processed and completed and where Koda has received all necessary information from the concert promoter (for example about ticket revenues per concert).
This distribution includes the first distributions for DR concerts held in Q1 2022, covering concerts featuring DR’s own ensembles and choirs as well as other concerts held at DR’s concert hall.
Within Background the distribution also includes a final distribution covering 2021 for those areas where distributions are based on analogy reporting. You can find more information on the specific background areas here.
Abroad
Koda regularly distributes the revenues received from other collective rights management societies for the use of Koda members’ music abroad. Koda’s rate of distributions depends on the relevant societies’ distribution frequency and speed within their various distribution areas. On average, the amounts distributed monthly by Koda spend less than one month with Koda before being sent on to our members.
The October distribution includes an extra distribution of a lump sum payments received from societies abroad as well as distributions of a number of smaller outstanding amounts which Koda has received from abroad over some time and been unable to match to specific works. The funds are now distributed on the basis of applicable data about works for which distributions have previously been distributed within the relevant periods and territories.
