May 2023

Koda’s May distribution 2023 took place on Thursday 11 May. For a full overview of the areas and performance periods included, see the Koda distribution schedule

Monthly distributions for TV and Radio

The May distribution includes the use of music on all TV and Radio channels where distributions are made monthly. These primarily concern performances in February 2023, but in several areas you will find that performances from March 2023 have also already been reported, processed and are ready for distribution.

This May sees the beginning of distributions for Koda’s Commercials broadcast, which covers music used in commercials on a series of channels where Koda only handles revenues pertaining to the commercials. This applies to channels such as TV3+, Eurosport1, Eurosport2, Disney Channel and more.  You can read more about the Commercials broadcast here

In addition to this, the May distribution also begins 2023 distributions for the TV channel See, covering music use in January and February.

Online

As regards the Online field, the May distribution includes a monthly distribution for the music streaming service Nuuday Musik (YouSee Musik and Telmore Musik), covering performances up to and including March 2023. It also includes an annual distribution for DR On Demand 2022, covering music use across DR’s digital platforms (in films, series, radio shows, podcasts and more).

Background and Concert

The May distribution includes revenues generated within most areas of the category Background Music where reports have been received for music use in 2022. This is to say those areas where Koda collects reporting from professional providers of music services for commercial use, which is subsequently used as the basis for distributing revenues from a specific Background section.

In addition to this, the May distribution also covers Background areas where no reporting is received. In those cases, Koda bases its distributions on analogous information from other representative areas. As regards the categories Daytime Radio, Music for fitness and TV, the May distribution covers Q2 of 2022, while it covers all of 2022 for the category Recorded Music.

As regards concerts, the May distribution covers all concerts where music reporting has been processed and completed and where Koda has received all necessary information from the concert promoter (for example about ticket revenues per concert). Much of the May distribution pertains to concerts held in 2023.

Abroad

Koda regularly pays out revenues received from sister societies for the use of Koda members’ music abroad. Koda’s distribution rates reflect the individual societies’ distribution frequency and speed in their various distribution areas.

Prior to this May distribution, Koda has received new quarterly distributions from sister societies in Finland (TEOSTO), Norway (TONO), USA (ASCAP) and the Netherlands (BUMA). For most of these societies, the distributions cover performances in various areas up to and including Q3 2022.
