June 2024

Koda’s June distribution 2024 took place on Thursday 13 June. For a full overview of the areas and performance periods included, see the Koda distribution schedule

TV and Radio

The June distribution includes the use of music on all TV and Radio channels where distributions are made monthly. These primarily concern performances in March 2024, but in several areas you will find that performances from April 2024 have also already been reported, processed and are ready for distribution. Furthermore, it includes distributions for all of 2023 for the areas Faroese TV, Greenlandic TV and Local Radio

PLEASE NOTE: The preliminary per-minute values for 2024 are negatively affected by a disagreement on TV distribution tariffs with Nuuday, the company behind products such as YouSee. We will only know the final values when the tariff issue has been settled. The distributions for other channels such as TV3, Kanal 4, Kanal 5 and so on are also affected by this conflict, which means that the 2024 distributions for these channels have been postponed until further notice. At present, we do not know when we will make distributions for 2024 for the channels mentioned here.

Digital services at TV distributors

The June distribution includes annual distributions for a range of digital services offered by TV distributors such as YouSee, Stofa, Waoo and others.

This includes distributions for 2023 for the area Interactive TV Services, which covers the various ways in which TV distributors make content from flow channels in their cable TV packages/subscriptions available digitally. More specifically, it concerns the music use that takes place when broadcasts are started over, watched via catch-up archives or recorded (NPVR) by individual users.

It also includes distributions for 2023 for the area VOD archives at TV distributors, which concerns the use of music in films and series which are made available to subscribers via distributor platforms, and DRTV at TV distributors, which covers on-demand consumption of DR content.

Music streaming and VOD

The June distribution includes quarterly distributions for the streaming services Spotify and YouTube, covering licensing in Denmark as well as direct licensing abroad. For information on specific periods, see the distribution schedule. The June distribution also includes a monthly distribution for performances in April 2024 on Nuuday Musik (YouSee Musik and Telmore Musik).

As regards VOD, the June distribution includes a quarterly distribution for Netflix (Q3 2023) and an annual distribution for the Danish libraries’ film service Filmstriben, covering all of 2023.

Concerts and Films in cinemas

As regards concerts, the June distribution covers all concerts where music reporting has been processed and completed and where Koda has received all necessary information from the concert promoter (for example about ticket revenues per concert).  This time, this may include distributions for concerts held up until May 2024.

The June distribution includes distributions for the use of music in films shown in cinemas in 2023. Distributions within this area are made on the basis of data from Statistics Denmark regarding cinema tickets sold in Denmark.

Abroad and NCB

Prior to this distribution, Koda received new quarterly settlements from sister societies in France (SACEM) and Japan (JASRAC) and a significant part of the total distributions within this field comes from those countries. The distributions primarily cover performances in 2023 within the areas of TV, Online and Concert.

The June distribution includes a biannual settlement from NCB for the sale of physical releases. It also covers mechanical rights on streaming services and YouTube in the USA, for which NCB has collected revenues through collaborations with the companies MLC and Orfium.
