Tv and Radio
The December distribution covers all TV and Radio areas where distributions are made monthly for performances up to and including October 2022. New additions are the channels SkyShowtime 1 and SkyShowtime 2, which have replaced the channels Paramount+ Series and Paramount+ Movies as of September 2022. Furthermore, the December distribution includes monthly distributions for music used in commercials on channels such as TV3 +, National Geographic and Eurosport 1.
The December distribution also includes final distributions for 2021 for several TV channels, including the Discovery channels (Kanal 4, Kanal 5, 6’eren, Kanal 9, Discovery Channel and more), Paramount and VH1. As regards DK4, the distribution also includes final distributions for performances for both 2020 and 2021.
As regards TV, the distribution also covers music used on TV distributors’ info channels during the period 2019–2021. This distribution is based on music reporting received from YouSee as well as on reporting from other areas which are representative in relation to the music sources used.
VOD and music streaming
As regards the VOD area, December sees the beginning of distributions for music use in 2022 on several of the major VOD services. This applies to distributions for the first half of 2022 on the services Viaplay, Disney+, HBO and YouSee/Blockbuster. For all these services, distributions were previously made annually, but will from now on be done semi-annually. In addition, the distribution covers Q1 2022 for Netflix and all of 2021 for iTunes VOD.
The December distribution includes a quarterly distribution of revenues received from the streaming services Spotify and YouTube, covering licensing in Denmark as well as direct licensing abroad. For specific periods, see Koda’s distribution schedule (link!). As regards streaming, the December distribution also covers older, unidentified online amounts which will, in accordance with established practice, be distributed to works that have been part of the original distributions within the relevant areas and periods.
Furthermore, the December distribution includes monthly distributions for Nuuday Musik (YouSee Musik and Telmore Musik) for performances up to and including October 2022.
Other online distributions
As regards online music use, the December distribution includes various online areas consisting of revenues that cannot be linked directly to full census reporting, and which are therefore distributed based on analogous data. This applies to ‘Online Background’ 2021, which comprises income from smaller-scale digital services (primarily minor AV services such as web TV or websites with video material), which do not lend themselves well to efficient processing. For practical reasons and to avoid wasting resources, Koda does not collect or process reporting in this field. Instead, the distribution is based on reuse of reporting from the Interactive TV Services area.
Also included are distributions for the area ‘Online AV without reporting’, which comprises revenue from multi-territorial online AV services (primarily YouTube), which the services have been unable to identify as music via their internal systems, meaning that Koda has not received music reporting. The distribution covers the period 2020 and is based of YouTube music reporting from the period as well as analogous data consisting of representative distribution data from the areas Interactive TV services and Concert.
Finally, the December distribution covers Instore Radio 2021, which is based on music reporting from several of the largest professional providers of background music for business use.
Concert and Background
As regards concerts, the December distribution covers all concerts where the music reporting has been processed and completed and where Koda has received all necessary information from the concert promoter (for example about ticket revenues per concert). This time it includes concerts at this year's Roskilde Festival.
As regards the Background area, the distribution covers the first half of 2022 for several Background areas where distributions are based on reused reporting from other areas. This specifically concerns the categories ‘Daytime radio’, ‘Music for Fitness’ and ‘TV’.
Abroad
Koda regularly distributes revenues received from sister societies for the use of Koda members’ music abroad. Koda’s distribution rates reflect the individual societies’ distribution frequency and speed in their various distribution areas. Because Koda makes monthly distributions, this means that on average, the amounts received spend less than one month with Koda before being distributed.
The December distribution includes distributions of lump sums received from societies abroad as well as distributions of several smaller amounts which, over a period, it has not been possible to match to specific works. These amounts are now distributed based on analogous data on works for which distributions have already been made and which come from the territories and periods associated with the amounts.
NCB
The December distribution includes the semi-annual distribution from NCB for the sale of physical releases. In addition, the distribution covers mechanical rights on streaming services and YouTube in the USA, for which NCB has received remuneration via collaboration with the societies The MLC and Orfium.
