June distribution 2022

Koda’s June 2022 distribution will be Thursday 16 June. For a full overview of the areas and performance periods included, see the distribution schedule.

TV and Radio

The June distribution covers all TV and radio areas where distributions are made monthly. While it primarily concerns performances in March, in several areas you will also find that performances from April have already been reported, processed and are ready for distribution.

The June distribution also sees the first distributions for 2022 usage of music in commercials on channels such as TV3 +, TV3 Puls, National Geographic and Eurosport 1. The distribution for commercials on these channels covers Q1 of 2022; in future, this distribution will be made monthly. You can read more about commercials here.

As regards TV, the June distribution includes annual distributions for Faroese and Greenlandic TV 2021, while the field of Radio includes the annual distribution for Local Radio 2021.

Final distribution 2021 for TV

The June distribution covers the final settlement for the performance year 2021 on DR and TV2’s TV channels as well as other TV channels for which Koda receives and processes 100% reporting. The final distribution includes the channels where, after all the monthly distributions for the year have been made, some undistributed funds remain. These are then distributed proportionally based on the music works and rightsholders involved in the original payments.

Digital services at TV distributors

The June distribution includes annual distributions for a range of digital services offered by Danish TV distributors such as YouSee, Stofa and Waoo. Among these you will find Interactive TV Services 2021, which covers the various ways in which TV distributors make content from flow channels in their TV packages available digitally. More specifically, it concerns the music use that takes place when broadcasts are restarted, watched via catch-up archives or recorded (NPVR) by individual users.

The distribution also covers VOD archives at TV distributors 2021, which concerns the use of music in films and series that TV distributors make available to their subscribers via VOD archives. At YouSee, this includes the digital platform of the TV channel Xee.

Finally, the distribution includes DRTV at TV distributors 2021, which covers the music use taking place when content from DRTV is offered as part of the TV distributors’ platform.

VOD and music streaming

The June distribution includes a substantial distribution within the field of VOD, featuring several VOD services for which distributions are made annually. These include the services Viaplay subscription 2021, Viaplay film rental 2021, YouSee/Blockbuster 2021, Filmstriben 2021 and Filmcentralen 2021.  In addition, quarterly distribution is made for Netflix (Q4 2021) and annual distribution is made for the web radio Radio Play (2021).

The June distribution also includes the areas TV in education and Film in education, covering music used in TV programs and feature films used for education purposes in schools and other institutions of education. Koda receives reports from CFU (Center For Undervisningsmidler), which makes a large selection of television broadcasts and films digitally available to educational institutions. In addition, distributions for TV in education are based partially on reused reporting from the TV area.

The June distribution includes quarterly distributions for the streaming services Spotify and YouTube, covering licensing in Denmark as well as direct licensing abroad. For information on specific periods, see the distribution schedule.

Monthly distributions are made for performances in April 2021 on Nuuday Musik (YouSee Musik and Telmore Musik), which recently transitioned to internal processing at Koda, meaning that this service is now included in Koda’s monthly distributions.

Subsidised concerts 2021

Distributions are now made for Subsidised concerts 2021, marking the final year of such subsidisation within Koda’s distribution areas.

As of January 2022, subsidies are replaced by a new application-based work support scheme operating via Koda Kultur. Following a recommendation from Koda’s board of directors, the amendment was approved at the 2020 general meeting and now takes effect from 2022 after a one-year delay due to the general impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on live concerts.

The new work support scheme and associated application deadlines will be further described at koda.dk over the course of the autumn.

Abroad

Prior to the June 2022 distribution, Koda received new quarterly settlements from sister societies in the United Kingdom (PRS), Germany (GEMA) and the USA (ASCAP), respectively, and a significant part of the total distributions within this field comes from those countries. The distributions primarily cover performances in 2021 within the areas of TV, Radio and Online.

NCB

The June distribution includes a biannual distribution from NCB for physical sales. It also covers mechanical rights on streaming services and YouTube in the USA, for which NCB has collected revenues through new collaborations with The MLC and Orfium. For details, see the NCB newsletter.
