Koda receives payment relating to the sale of blank audio and video media to offset the private copying that consumers can legally carry out. The blank media scheme has been revised as of 2022 to include many forms of digital copying on tablets, smartphones, PCs and other digital devices. The organisation Copydan Kulturplus collects the levies on behalf of Koda and other rightsholder organisations.
How is the money distributed?
The amounts collected are divided into separate distribution categories, one for audio media, one for visual media. Within both categories, distributions are carried out on the basis of analogous, representative data from other areas.
- Audio media – the distribution is based on data from music streaming services where Koda represents the entire world repertoire (primarily Nuuday Music)
- Visual media – the distribution is based on data from the entire VOD area (Netflix, TV2 Play, DRTV, Viaplay etc.)
The distribution is made on the basis of the amounts accrued by the given work within the original areas within the distribution year. For information on when distributions are made, see our distribution schedule
