September 2024

Koda’s September 2024 distribution took place on Thursday 12 September. For a full overview of the areas and performance periods included, see the Koda distribution schedule

TV and Radio

The September distribution covers all TV and radio areas where distributions are made monthly. While it primarily concerns performances in June, in several areas you will also find that performances from July have already been reported, processed and are ready for distribution.

Furthermore, the September distribution includes annual distributions for music used in all of 2023 on the channels TV3 Sport and TV3 Max. It also covers music use in the first six months of 2024 on Greenlandic radio.

The September distribution also covers synchronisation pertaining to DR in 2023, in accordance with the synchronisation agreement between NCB and DR. The distribution is based on reporting submitted by DR, covering all broadcasts that were shown for the first time in 2023. These broadcasts have been matched up against music data in Koda’s systems and filtered in accordance with the criteria specified in the agreement.

Video On Demand

The September distribution covers quarterly distributions for TV2 Play (on demand and flow) for Q1 2024 as well as for Netflix, covering Q4 2023. In addition, it includes an annual distribution for Discovery+, covering 2023, and the first-ever distribution for the VOD service Amazon Prime, covering the period 2018 to 2022.

The September distribution also includes distributions for 2023 covering the areas TV in Education and Films in Education, which covers the use of music in TV broadcasts and films that have been screened in an educational context. Koda receives reporting from the CFU (Center For Undervisningsmidler/Centre for Educational Resources), which makes a large selection of TV broadcasts and films digitally available to the education sector. In addition to this, distributions within the area TV in Education are partially based on reused reports from the field of TV.

Music Streaming and Other Online

Within the field of music streaming, the September distribution includes a monthly distribution for music use in July 2024 on Nuuday Musik (YouSee Musik and Telmore Musik) as well as quarterly distributions for the streaming services Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music. Please note that the distribution for the international services also includes direct distributions for the use of Koda members’ works in other European countries. For an overview of specific services and periods, see the Koda distribution schedule

The September distribution also includes annual distributions for Radio Play, Instore Radios, music in podcasts, and for the use of specially composed music on smaller online sites and in apps.

Concert and First Performance Award

As regards concerts, the September distribution covers all concerts where the music reporting has been processed and completed and where Koda has received all necessary information from the concert promoter (for example about ticket revenues per concert). This time, the area can include distributions for concerts held up to and including July, and it includes distributions for concerts at this year’s Tinderbox festival.

The September distribution also includes first performance awards for performances in 2023.

Abroad

Ahead of the September distribution, Koda has received new quarterly distributions from sister societies in France (SACEM) and Japan (JASRAC), and a substantial portion of the distribution within the area comes from these countries. The distributions cover performances up to and including Q1 2024, primarily within the areas TV, Radio and Online.

The September distribution also includes distributions of so-called ‘returned shares’ received from Koda’s sister societies abroad. These are funds which have, due to errors in the rightsholder documentation, initially been sent to incorrect societies abroad and subsequently returned to Koda in accordance with established practice. The returned shares have been reviewed and corrected by Koda and are now distributed in accordance with correct rightsholder documentation.
