December 2021

Koda’s December 2021 distribution took place on Thursday 9 December. For a full overview of the areas and performance periods included, see the Koda distribution schedule.

TV and Radio

The December distribution covers all TV and Radio areas where distributions are made monthly. It primarily concerns performances in September, but in several areas you will find that performances from October have also already been reported, processed and are ready for distribution. Furthermore, the December distribution includes monthly distributions for music used in commercials on channels such as TV3 +, TV3 Puls, National Geographic and Eurosport 1.

The distribution also includes the Discovery channels Kanal 4, Kanal 5, 6eren, Kanal 9 and Investigation Discovery, covering the period Q1-Q3 of 2021. Distributions for these channels have been temporarily on hold while testing and implementing a new reporting format. As regards Kanal 4 and Kanal 5, the December distribution also includes final distributions for performances in 2020.

The distribution further covers TV2 Regioner Q3 2021, Uptown TV and Xmas for 2020 as well as a final distribution concerning 2020 performances on DK4.

Online

As regards VOD, the December distribution covers the Netflix Q1 2021 and TV2 Play Q1-Q2 2021. In addition, it includes an annual distribution for the web radio Radio Play covering all of 2020.

As regards music streaming, the December distribution includes distributions for services such as Spotify, Nuuday Music, Apple Music and YouTube. Please note that settlements for Spotify, Apple and YouTube also include direct distributions from abroad licensed across national borders via the joint Nordic licensing hub Polaris. For specific periods and services, see the distribution schedule.

The December distribution includes a substantial distribution of unlocatable amounts pertaining to the streaming area where lack of sufficient metadata has made it impossible to find matches in Koda’s work database. The amounts primarily concern 2018, but some pertain to 2017. The amounts are distributed as a final settlement to those works and rightsholders who have previously received distributions for the specific services and periods involved.

Concert and Background

As regards concerts, the December distribution covers all concerts where the music reporting has been processed and completed and where Koda has received all necessary information from the concert promoter (for example about ticket revenues per concert). The Concert distributions covers a large part of this year’s church concerts; Koda has been unable to process these until now for technical reasons.

As regards the Background area, the December distribution covers Daytime Radio and TV (without reporting) for the first half of 2021. In both areas, the distributions are based on reused reporting from the radio and TV area, respectively.

Abroad

Prior to the December distribution, Koda has received major quarterly settlements from sister companies in the UK (PRS) and the USA (ASCAP), meaning that a significant part of the distribution of revenues generated abroad concerns the use of Koda members’ music in these countries. The distributions cover performances in various areas within the realms of TV, radio and online.

In addition, Koda now carries out distributions of unspecified amounts received from abroad (primarily Germany and Italy), where it has not been possible to identify matches with specific works and rights holders. The amount covers the period 2018 to 2020 and is distributed to works/rightsholders who have previously received distributions from the specific territories and periods with which the amounts are associated.

Distributions from NCB

The December distribution also includes distributions from NCB for physical releases and synchronisation. For more information, see the NCB newsletter.
