About KODA

KODA is a non-profit collective rights management society that administers Danish and international copyrights for music creators and publishers, when their music is performed in public.

KODA represents approximately 36,500 Danish composers, songwriters and music publishers. Through reciprocal contracts with rights societies in more than 115 countries, we offer the entire world repertoire of music in one single agreement.

We administer the public performing rights of our members - the music creators and the publishers. The mechanical rights are administered by the jointly owned Nordic society, Nordisk Copyright Bureau (NCB). KODA is owned by its members with a board consisting of six composers/songwriters and three music publishers - all elected at the annual general assembly.

KODA's two main tasks are to ensure that the music creators get paid when their music is played in public - and to ensure that the music users are able to clear the rights to the music they wish to use.

Since 1935, KODA has held a concession given by the Danish Ministry of Culture for entering into agreements concerning the public performance of music.

Where does the money go?
With administration costs as low as 10 percent each year, we can pay an unprecedented high amount back to the music creators in Denmark and worldwide. Around 60 per cent of our revenues are sent to rights holders abroad, the rest is paid to rights holders here in Denmark. Our revenues from abroad are increasing each year due to successful Danish music creators and feature films.
